The Electoral Commission was established under section 78 of the Montserrat-Constitution-Order-2010-SI-2010-No-2474.  It is governed by the Electoral Commission Act 2012 and comprises four members.  Mrs. Claudette Weekes chairs this commission.  Its primary function is to supervise elections in Montserrat in accordance with any laws regulating the conduct of elections.  The Electoral Commission is committed to ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in an impartial and transparent manner to ensure vote’s confidence and to contribute to the further strengthening of democracy.

UPDATE:

Under section 78(2) of the Montserrat Constitution Order 2010 (Cap. 1.01), the following persons were appointed as members of the Electoral Commission for a period of five years, from 14th September, 2017:

Mrs. Claudette Weekes – Chairman
Mr. Eugene Skerritt – Member
Mrs. Angela Greenaway – Member
Mrs. Sarita Francis – Member

In anticipation of the upcoming elections, a series of voter education programmes will be aired on Radio Montserrat on the first Wednesday of every month. The programme is aimed at ensuring that members of the public are fully informed of the process and have an opportunity to clarify any concerns.
